Farallon Institute Assistants

Chaco Roco Canyon

Black Labrador

Chaco recently earned his FUDD in skunkology, following in the footpets of his mentor Mocha Java con Leche. Chaco’s visual and sensory acuity, coupled with an obsession to locate "pant...pant...fuzzy yellow balls that fall from the sky" make him a spirited, if not distracted assistant. Chaco enjoys singing, whining enthusiastically, and talking loudly in deep tones. Chaco lives with Bill and his family at Madman Ranch on the outskirts of Petaluma.

Kenai Mia Luna

Black Labrador

Kenai’s academic achievements include a M.Sc.in the ecology of small mammals, with an emphasis on pocket gophers. Kenai specializes in capture and mark (recapture is often not possible) studies of gophers, and statistical analyses of gophers consumed per dig. She’s also adept at the identification and abuse of fence deficiencies. Kenai’s warm personality provides service to the community in terms of kisses, licks, and the occasional jump. Kenai lives with her brother Chaco and human family at Madman Ranch, Petaluma.

Maximillion Von Bacchus

Weimaraner

Max is an overtly friendly Weimaraner who lives with Sarah Ann and Spencer. He has five years of field research experience conducting rocky intertidal community experiments in California and British Columbia. His major duties in the field include rolling on the beach, fetching kelp stipes, chasing bears, and sitting on the backpack. He has extensive at-sea experience having conducted 'research' aboard vessels such as the R/V McArthur II (NOAA), R/V Provo Wallis (CCGS), and the R/V Betsy (UBC). Recently he transferred to a (under-the) desk-job where he conducts naps in sunny patches and demands attention from his coworkers.

Chaco and Kenai

Chaco (distracted) and Kenai conducting nighttime observations of nocturnal fauna. Both assistants are, at this moment, relatively disinterested in their work.
